The Secretive Jay

The Jay

Hello there, thank you for your interest in my work! I am excited to say that I have just completed the latest piece for my new collection and I wanted to share it with you here. I hope you enjoy reading more and seeing her up close and personal.

I have always loved Jays. They are the shy and almost invisible cousins of the Magpies and Crow family and love nothing more than to gather Acorns from the ancient Oaks in the autumn/fall and bury them to help sustain them through the cold Winter months. They love the Woodlands and are especially timid when it comes to human folk, so if you want to enjoy seeing their spectacular beauty for real you need to walk in silence (inside and out) in the Woodlands and be very patient.

The Jay is my third piece in my Wild Britain Collection and I really loved co-creating with her. She is so wise, so graceful and so peaceful, sitting with her image, my pencils and paper was such a beautiful, quiet and deeply enjoyable experience.

Working with my lovely Faber Castell Polychromos pencils on A4 White Goldline 150gsm cartridge paper I had such a great time blending a range of colours to achieve her stunning pink/grey plumage, rich chocolates, delicate greys and whites and that vibrant blue in her wing feathers.

I am building this Collection for exhibition and Gallery exhibits later in the year, so at this point I am only offering high quality reproduction prints, created by my wonderful printers, Love From The Artist. They are experts at reproducing the most stunning prints with their state of the art printers for maximum colour accuracy and longevity.

Each A4 print is priced at £40 plus postage and packaging (globally available). If you would like to bring The Secretive Jay energy into your home or space, please comment below or contact me on my Get in Touch page. I’d love to hear from you. Love Jules XXX

  1. So beautiful Jules. My Mum had a wonderful old bird book when I was a child, with glorious, full-page illustrations. The jay was always my favourite but I didn’t get to see one in person until my 30s. We’ve seen the odd one here in this space in Wales which is just so magical for me! Thank you so much for creating – and sharing – this wonderful piece!

  2. Thank you dear Robyn. How wonderful that your Mum had such a gorgeous bird book, that must have been great as you were growing to learn all about them. That’s fantastic that your favourite it the Jay, they are so very special and how amazing you got to see one finally in your adult life! I am sure you will see more and more of them in Wales now as you call them to your heart, they always hear! It is my total pleasure and honour to have co-created him and shared him with you, I’m thrilled you love him so much. Love Jules XXX
