I have always had a soft spot for Badgers. Their colouring, demeanor and overall attitude and solidity has always drawn me to them. The few times I have been lucky enough to encounter them has always been in my car, driving down country lanes, late at night and it has always be SO special. Needless to say, I was particularly excited to be working on this piece. I also am concerned for the future of Badgers as they are being pushed out of their habitat and further culled. I support the Wildlife Trusts and any campaigns trying to protect these beautiful beings, we need them in our world and they need us to protect them.
My sixth piece in my Wild Britain Collection I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Badger energy – their strong, grounded, no nonsense, yet benevolent, earthy, nurturing ways has been such a pleasure to experience. His coat was such a wonderful challenge too, so thick and course and multi coloured and layered, it was so wonderful to take my time and to continue to build up layer after layer to achieve the final effect.
I’ve had some really lovely comments on my social media pages already, describing how they feel they could reach out and touch their fur, which makes me a very happy artist! Thank you so much to all of you that are supporting my work and letting me know your feelings and reactions, it is so wonderful and I so appreciate you all!
I am keeping all of my original pieces for my Wild Britain Collection and this piece has been entered into the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Wildlife Artist of the Year Competition 2021 and will become available to purchase via their website after 25th May 2021 (50% of the sale price is donated to the Foundation for their wonderful work), they are all on A4 white 150gsm Goldline Cartridge Paper. I work with Faber Castell Polychromos pencils for this entire Collection. However, if you have fallen in love with Badger (or any of my other pieces) I am offering beautiful Sinterix prints so that you can bring their beautiful energy into your home spaces. They are £40 each plus P&P. Please message me on my Get In Touch page to ask me any questions and to place your order. I’d love to hear from you.
